Dental Implants
If you’re missing a single tooth, several teeth or all your teeth, you may be a good candidate for dental implants. At Rutgers Health University Dental Associates, we can help you restore your smile with dental implant surgery. Besides looking and functioning like natural teeth, implants won’t sacrifice the health of neighboring teeth for long-term success. To schedule an appointment with our world-class dentists and specialists, give us a call or submit an online form.
The Procedure
Made from metal posts or frames, a dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is secured to the jawbone beneath the gum to hold either a replacement tooth or bridge. During the procedure, the implant is screwed into the jaw, where it then fuses with your jawbone to keep the bone healthy and intact. Once your jaw and soft tissues have healed, your periodontist will make impressions of your teeth and later place the artificial tooth or teeth.
Am I A Good Candidate For Dental Implants?
Oral health is an important factor when determining your eligibility for dental implants. Gum tissue that is free of periodontal disease and a strong jawbone can make you a good candidate for dental implants. However, the experienced team at Rutgers Health University Dental Associates can perform bone grafts and gum grafts to prepare your mouth for a dental implant procedure – a process needed when a tooth has been missing for a long period of time.
